About the project

The ‘Huddersfield Black Empowerment Programme’ for Black young men aged 18-35 years. The programme was launched at the end of Black History Month on Friday 1st November 2024.

Education 2000, alongside KLTV (Kirklees Local Television), National Careers Service (NCS) and other partners launched the programme with an Introductory Event on Friday 1st November 2024, at St John’s Resource Centre, St John’s Rd, Huddersfield, HD1 5BW.

The event included speakers on local Black history (Natalie Pinnock-Hamilton mbe and Phil James) and presentations covering the programme contents:

1. Business Development – Dr Milton Brown

These workshops will help turn young peoples’ business dreams into reality. Join us for a transformative series of workshops for young Black male entrepreneurs aged 18 to 30. Our program covers everything from the fundamentals of community leadership and entrepreneurialism to the step-by-step process of building your business idea.

These sessions will support young adults to:

• Understand What is Entrepreneurship

• The importance of community leadership and Black leadership in entrepreneurship

• Develop entrepreneurial skills and business acumen

• Craft a short compelling business plan

• Brand their business and mapping your cost structure

• Overcome challenges to ensure repeat business

• Develop a strong customer relationship and identify revenue streams

• Collaborate with partners and understanding service users/customers

• Strategies to get their business to market

• Reflection and review

2. Career Development – National Careers Service (NCS)

These sessions will support young people to:

• Develop a positive mindset and increase motivation

• Develop CVs and Cover letters

• Develop an Action Plan

• Explore career routes and create links with employers

• Events are hosted by Dominic Pinnock (Programme Manager) and lunch is provided.
